Anogeia

Anogeia is a traditional village in Rethymnon, at an altitude of 750 meters. Anogeia is well known for its contribution to the country's cultural heritage as well as its contribution to the national liberation struggles.

Many great lyre singers were born in this place, like the great singer Nikos Xilouris and the famous instrumentalist, lyricist, and performer Psarantonis.

Due to the fact that in Anogeia the traditional element is very intense, it does worth trying the traditional Cretan cuisine and greek coffee in one of the village cafes. At a short distance from Anogeia, lies the cave of Zeus, the cave Sfendoni, and the Nida plateau.

Axos

Axos is a small traditional village 7 kilometers away from Anogeia. It is built in an amphitheatrical position on a slope north of Psiloritis, at an altitude of 500 meters.

Axos has a history of several thousand years. Some of the monuments that survive up to today include an ancient Acropolis, located on the top of the hill, a temple dedicated to the goddess Aphrodite, vaulted tombs and parts of ancient walls. In addition, around the village, there are nine Byzantine churches, which are decorated with beautiful frescoes and colorful mosaics.
